A young woman claims she has been left scarred for life, after a now-banned surgeon performed a botched breast augmentation which made her nipples ‘rot away’.

Dental nurse Kirsty Adam, 24, opted for surgery after weight loss caused her breasts to ‘sag’.

Eventually, she paid UK surgery company Transform £6,000 to have a mastopexy which would increase her bra size from 36D to a DD cup.

But Ms Adam claims the surgery, carried out by Romanian surgeon Dr Vana Vasilescu, left her looking as if someone had ‘hacked away’ at her with a ‘rusty knife’.

And her nipples became ‘partially necrotic’, as flesh began to rot away.

The dental nurse first contacted Transform over the internet in January 2015.

She said: ‘I initially did some research to see what I could do.

‘You hear more horror stories from people that go abroad than you do in the UK. And I thought I’d be safe here.’

After attending a consultation and a pre-surgery assessment at a Transform clinic in Glasgow, she paid the company almost £6,000 for the treatment, an insurance police and extensive aftercare.

Dr Vasilescu performed the surgery at the private BMI Kings Park Clinic in Stirling and Ms Adam, returned home just a day after the operation.

But when she returned to the Glasgow clinic for check-ups it became obvious something was wrong when nurses cleaned her wounds and changed her bandages.

Her nipples had become ‘partially necrotic’ and pieces of dying flesh had to be removed.

‘The nurse said that I had necrosis – rotting flesh,’ she said.

‘I knew this was possible from my research because the nipples are getting taken off and put back on and sometimes part of it can not heal right.

‘Every time I went back they took bits off. I thought it was to help the skin regenerate and grow again.

‘I looked down at it and it was black. I knew it shouldn’t look that colour, but I trusted the nurse.’

When Ms Adam eventually managed to get an appointment with Dr Vasilescu, the doctor assured her everything was in order.

She said: ‘She just took the plasters off and pulled a face. She said it was ‘fine’ and put new plasters on it.

‘I felt terrible. I knew something wasn’t right.’

Angered by her surgeon’s lack of compassion, she left and told the clinic’s receptionist she did not want to see Dr Vasilescu again.

Once she had been reassigned another surgeon, he immediately treated the wound and put Ms Adam on a course of antibiotics.

‘Straight away when he took the plasters off, he said I need antibiotics because there was an infection,’ she said.

‘I started the antibiotics and was on them for a week to clear the infection up.’

When Ms Adam went to the clinic to make a complaint against Dr Vasilescu, she was told the surgeon had left the company.

Dr Vasilescu appeared before an interim orders tribunal at the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) on 8 August 2016 following a General Medical Council (GMC) investigation.

The hearing looked at whether the surgeon’s registration should be restricted while allegations about her conduct were resolved.

Dr Vasilescu was handed an interim suspension before finally being erased from the register on 10 February 2017.

But while she is no longer allowed to perform surgeries in the UK, Dr Vasilescu appears to still be practicing in Romania and even advertises her services online.

The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) said it would ‘not comment on individual cases’ and said the surgeon had been erased by the GMC for ‘administrative reasons’.

Ms Adam is currently undergoing revision surgery, which is being carried out by an independent practitioner in England.Botched boob lift left young woman with 'rotting nipples'

Transform are also funding laser treatment to heal her scars and tattoo work to replace her nipples.

She claims she was offered £250 in compensation as a goodwill gesture’, but rejected the money.

‘Now it looks like somebody’s hacked away at me with a blunt, rusty knife,’ Ms Adam said.

‘Nothing is where it should be. Everything is too high up. My breasts are really hard, they’re sore and I have no nipples.

‘For £6,000 that shouldn’t be the case – for getting it done in the UK.

‘It makes you lose faith in the health care system and all these regulations that are out there.’

‘I’m happy to speak out as long as it stops other people from getting treated in this way,’ she added.

Transform confirmed Dr Vasilescu no longer works for them but they have refused to provide the reasons.

A spokesman said the they would not be able to comment on ‘the specifics of the case or Ms Vasilescu’.

He added: ‘Ensuring continuity of high-quality patient care is Transform’s utmost priority.

‘This means that we provide support and care for patients throughout and following their procedure with Transform.

‘In the rare event that a patient may be unhappy with the results of their procedure, we ensure that they are offered a free of charge follow-up consultation, and a free of charge revision procedure, if recommended by a surgeon.’
