Who needs Costa? Alvaro Morata’s 27-minute cameo to get Chelsea fans hyped
The 24-year-old joined the Premier League champions for a reported initial fee of £58million and he was thrown in at the deep end in Singapore, off the back of only two days of training with his new side.
Morata can be forgiven for looking a little rusty but the early signs were positive as he replaced Jeremie Boga in the 63rd minute at the National Stadium.
The Spaniard came onto the field as Chelsea were chasing the game, with the scoreline at 3-1, and his boundless energy was clear to see as he won free-kicks, made lung-busting runs and contributed towards Michy Batshuayi’s goal at the death.
While Bayern were able to hold on for a 3-2 victory, Conte was pleased with Morata’s performance from the bench.
He said: ‘It’s not easy to speak about the impact of Alvaro because he’s only been with us two days and he needs to work and find his feet, and understand our idea of football, but for sure he showed a great will and for us he’s a great buy.
‘We need to give him the right time to adapt to our way of football but he must be pleased with his performance.’
Morata showed Chelsea fans his intricacy in tight spaces just five minutes after coming onto the field…
Playing out wide for much of his time at Juventus and Real Madrid, Morata is more than willing to work the channels for his new team…
Morata is a handful for defenders during corners and helped create Batshuayi’s effort in the dying moments…
