A young boy has died after allegedly being ‘hit twice’ by a car in a hotel car park.
Dozens of police officers have been seen outside an Ibis hotel this evening following reports of a ‘baby being hit by a car’.
Police are said to have entered the building in Salford Quays earlier this evening.
At least three ambulances and 15 police cars are on the scene.
Andy Williamson, who is at the scene, told Metro.co.uk: ‘All I know is someone, reportedly a young child, was hit at least twice by a car in the car park.
‘A woman was shouting hysterically and a child/children were screaming and crying.’
Jose Maria Agudo Mac told Metro: ‘I was passing by with my girlfriend and we saw a lot of police arriving at the hotel.
‘After that my girlfriend saw a woman with blood on her body.’
Alec Turton said: ‘It was absolutely horrible. The sounds of the screaming from the people stood around the vehicle was blood curdling.
‘Two ladies in particular where screaming and wailing. It was so incredibly horrible to hear and witness.
‘The car park is over looked by approximately 16 apartments, and countless hotel rooms. I’ve never witnessed something that agonising to hear.
‘It was so hard to make out exactly what was being said amongst all the screaming and confusion but it sounded like “he’s killed him / she’s killed him, and he’s dead, he’s dead”.
He added: ‘We didn’t see the child. We just heard people screaming saying someone had been killed.
‘I don’t know if they took the child into the hotel. Masses of police arrived, both armed and unarmed.
‘I myself called the police and ambulance and begged them to send someone as it appeared someone was killed from all the commotion and screaming.
‘I was asked by the 999 operator if it was a possible gun shot and I explained I didn’t know but couldn’t be sure as it was very confusing with all the screaming and noises.’
One person said on Twitter: ‘Apparently a 17 month old boy was ran over by a black vehicle.
‘A grandma was shouting and screaming repeating it over and over.’
Another said: ‘I heard the screaming in the car park opposite my place, sounded like some lady said “you ran him/her over, then again”.’
A witness told the MEN on Facebook that he saw a woman with ‘blood on her’.
Police and ambulance crews are allegedly also inside the AC Marriott Hotel next door to the Ibis.
Hotel staff refused to comment when contacted by Metro.co.uk.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: ‘Earlier this evening police were called to reports of a serious collision involving a child on a car park on Trafford Road, Salford.
‘Sadly the young boy involved died at the scene.
‘Officers from the GMP Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) and other emergency services are currently at the scene.
‘Anybody with information should contact the SCIU on 0161 856 4741’.
